Magnificat January 2023

Magnificat Vol. LVIII, No. 1 25 The following is an account of the apparition of the Infant Jesus of Prague in the Sacred Host which took place in Syracuse, New York, on March 21, 1898, as related by the parish priest, Fr. B. C. Thibault. May his testimony increase our gratitude, faith and love towards Jesus truly present among us in the Blessed Sacrament. N March 1898, I had the good idea of installing amiraculous Infant Jesus of Prague in our church, shortly before our Forty Hours’ solemnity. At the opening of the Forty Hours, I asked my parishioners to direct their devotion during the exposition chiefly to the Blessed Sacrament. The first evening’s sermon was on the real presence of the Infant Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, with all His kindness and grace. This was on Sunday evening. On the afternoon of the following day, two altar boys who had received Communion the day before were making their hour of adoration in the sanctuary. They were sitting on stools and had become a little distracted and indifferent when a pious lady, kneeling at the communion rail near them, said softly in one of the boy’s ears, “Be more attentive, my child; do you not see little Jesus up front looking at you?” The boy raised his eyes instinctively towards the Blessed Sacrament and exclaimed, “Oh, the Infant Jesus!” At the same time, his little companion and the lady looked up, and to their great surprise they saw the same vision in the Sacred Host in the monstrance. The image of the Infant Jesus of Prague stood out perfectly against the white background of the Host, surrounded by rays of light. It was truly the little King of Prague with His crown, His priestly mantle, the world in His hand and His fingers raised for a blessing. 125t h anniversary of the appar i t ion of the INFANT JESUS OF PRAGUE IN THE SACRED HOST (1898-2023)
