O Mary, Virgin Guardian who so perfectly kept Jesus in You, deign to keep Him in me so that I in turn may give Him to souls. O Mary, be there when I am not there. Speak to Him when I am not speaking to Him. Listen to Him when I am distracted. Surround Him when I am distant. Warm Him when too cold is my poor heart. Repair my inadvertent and fleeting forgetfulness. Don’t let me ever part from Him. At the hour of my death, call me, command me so that I may go and praise You eternally in heaven. Amen.

To the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary

for the Conversion of sinners Sacred Heart of Jesus! who burns with such ardent love for men, and who is so little loved by them, how can I, through my fervor, console You for the ingratitude of all these sinful Christians! Will Your Heart, always tender and compassionate, always be broken with pain at the sight of the evils Your children bring upon themselves by their disorders and crimes? I know, O my Saviour! You love to be implored for sinners, because it was for them that You abased Yourself and resigned Yourself to all the humiliations of Your life and to the torments of Your Passion, because You want them to be converted and to live. However guilty I may be, I confidently approach the throne of Your mercies, firmly hoping that You will not reject my prayers for these unfortunate souls. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have pity on sinners, touch their hardened hearts, open their eyes blinded by their passions, make them see the abyss into which they are plunging. Grace, grace, O my God! suspend Your wrath. Mercy, Lord, mercy! Are not sinners Your children? O my God, do not abandon them, and since the blood of Your Son has been shed for them, let it not be in vain. Receive, in expiation for their crimes, the sufferings of Jesus, the prayers, the good works, the communions of so many fervent Christians, to which I unite myself with all the power of my soul. I want to live only to love You, happy if I could die of love for You, and compensate You for the coldness of so many Christians, who do not love You, because they do not know You. O Immaculate Heart of Mary! Heart of this august Virgin whom the Church rightly calls the Refuge and Advocate of sinners, join Your supplications to my feeble prayers to do holy violence to the Heart of Jesus. O Mary! I place my requests in Your Heart, deign to present them to the sovereign Judge, to Him whom You bore in Your virginal womb, to Him whose sublime virtues You imitated so well, to Him whom You loved so much, and I am at peace in the sweet hope that they will be granted. Amen.

To Mary, help of sinners

I do not deserve even a single glance from You, but I know that since You saw Your Son give His life for sinners, You ardently wish to help them. O Mother of Mercy, consider my misery and have mercy on me. I hear You call to all of us the Refuge of sinners, the Hope of the unfortunate who are reduced to despair, the Help of those who are abandoned: be therefore my Refuge, my Hope and my Help; it is for You to save me through Your intercession. For the Love of Jesus Christ, help me, extend a helping hand to an unfortunate person who, after his fall, commends himself to You so that You may help him to rise again. I know that, whenever possible, You are pleased to come to the help of a sinner; help me, therefore, now that You are able to do so. I have lost both grace and my soul through my sins; but behold, I place myself in Your hands; tell me what I must do to recover the grace of my God, and I will do it without delay. It is He who sends me to You that You may assist me; He wants me to have recourse to Your Mercy, so that I may be helped in the great matter of my salvation, not only by the merits of Your Son, but also by Your prayers. Well then! I have recourse to You; pray for me to Your Divine Son, and manifest all the good You do to those who trust in You: I dare to hope that I will be heard.

Prayer to the Blessed Virgin

to obtain Conformity to the Will of God Most holy Virgin, Mother of the Incarnate Word, repository of graces and refuge of wretched sinners, we turn to Your maternal love, with strong faith; and we beg You to obtain for us the grace to always do God’s Will, and Yours. Salve Regina – Hail, Holy Queen!

• This beautiful prayer to Mary, officially sung before the 12 th century, was enriched by Saint Bernard, who added the last three exclamations: “O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.” Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, Thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of Thy womb, Jesus, O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
