Novena to the Divine Mercy.

begins on Good Friday.

Jesus Himself asked Saint Faustina Kowalska to write and recite this novena before the Feast of Mercy.

Words of Jesus:

“I desire that during these nine days you will bring souls to the fountain of My Mercy, so that they may draw strength and relief, as well as all the graces they need in the difficulties of life and especially at the hour of death. Every day you will bring to My Heart a new group of souls and immerse them in the immensity of My Mercy. And I will lead them all to the house of My Father. You will do this in this life and in the next. I will refuse nothing to any soul you bring to the source of My Mercy. And every day you will implore My Father, in the name of My Sorrowful Passion to grant you graces for these souls.”

Day One

“Today, bring to Me the whole of humanity, especially sinners. Immerse them in the immensity of My Mercy. You will thus console Me for this bitter sadness into which the loss of souls plunges Me”.

Most Merciful Jesus, whose very nature is to have pity on us and to forgive us, do not look at our sins, but at the trust we have in Your infinite goodness. Receive us into the abode of Your most merciful Heart and do not allow us to leave it for eternity. We beseech You through the love that unites You to the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Eternal Father, cast a look of Mercy upon all mankind, and especially upon the poor sinners, enclosed in the Most Merciful Heart of Jesus. By His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us so that Your almighty Mercy may be glorified for ever and ever. Amen.

Second day

“Today bring to Me the priestly and religious souls, and immerse them in My unfathomable Mercy. They have given Me the strength to bear My bitter Passion. Through them, as through channels, My Mercy flows over humanity”.

Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, multiply Your graces in us, so that we may worthily perform the acts of Mercy, and that our neighbor may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.

Eternal Father, cast a merciful eye on this group of chosen ones in the heart of Your vineyard: the priestly and religious souls. Grant them the benefits of Your blessing. For the sake of the Heart of Your Son which is their home, grant them the power of Your light, that they may lead others on the path of salvation, and that they may all together pay homage to Your unfathomable Mercy for eternity. Amen.

Third Day

“Today, bring to Me all pious and faithful souls and immerse them in the ocean of My Mercy. These souls comforted Me on the way to Calvary. They were that drop of consolation in an ocean of bitterness”.

Most merciful Jesus, who abundantly bestows the treasure of Your Mercy on all, receive us all into the abode of Your most compassionate Heart. And do not let us go out of it for eternity, I beg of You by this inconceivable love with which Your Heart burns for the Heavenly Father.

Eternal Father, cast a glance of Mercy upon the faithful souls, the heritage of Your Son. Through His sorrowful Passion, grant them Your blessing and surround them with Your unceasing protection so that they may never lose the love and treasure of the Holy Faith, but may glorify Your infinite Mercy with the choir of Angels and Saints for all eternity. Amen.

Fourth day

“Today, bring to Me the pagans and those who do not yet know Me. I thought of them also during My painful Passion, and their future zeal consoles My Heart. Immerse them in the immensity of My Mercy”.

Most Compassionate Jesus, who are the light of the world, receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of the pagans and of those who do not yet know You. May the rays of Your grace illuminate them, so that they too may glorify with us the wonders of Your mercy. And do not let them leave the abode of Your most compassionate Heart.

Eternal Father, cast a look of Mercy upon the souls of the pagans and of all those who do not yet know You, but who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw them to the light of the Gospel. They do not know how great is the happiness of loving You. May they, too, glorify the munificence of Your Mercy for ever and ever. Amen.

Fifth day

“Today, bring to Me the souls of heretics and apostates. Immerse them in the immensity of My Mercy. In My bitter Passion, they tore My Body and Heart, that is, My Church. When they return to the unity of the Church, My Wounds will heal. And in this way they will relieve Me in My Passion”.

Most Merciful Jesus, who are goodness itself, You do not refuse light to those who ask You. Receive into the abode of Your most compassionate Heart the souls of heretics and apostates. By Your light bring them back to the unity of the Church. Do not let them leave the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, but let them also glorify the munificence of Your Mercy.

Eternal Father, cast a merciful eye upon the souls of heretics and apostates who, obstinately persisting in their errors, wasted Your bounties and abused Your graces. Do not look at their faults, but at the love of Your Son and His bitter Passion which He suffered for them as well, since they too are enclosed in the most compassionate Heart of Jesus. May they too glorify Your immense Mercy for ever and ever. Amen.

Sixth day

“Today, bring to Me the gentle and humble souls, as well as those of little children, and immerse them in My Mercy. They are the ones who most resemble My Heart. They comforted Me in My bitter agony. I saw them watching over My altars like earthly Angels. On them I pour torrents of graces. My grace can only be received by souls full of humility. It is these souls in whom I place my trust”.

Most Merciful Jesus, who said Yourself: “Learn from Me that I am gentle and humble of Heart”, receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the gentle and humble souls, as well as those of little children. These souls plunge the whole of heaven into rapture, and are especially loved by the Father of Heaven. They form a bouquet of flowers before the divine throne whose fragrance God alone breathes. These souls remain forever in the most compassionate Heart of Jesus, singing unceasingly the hymn of love and mercy for eternity.

Eternal Father, cast a merciful glance upon the gentle and humble souls, as well as upon those of the little children dwelling in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. It is these souls that most resemble Your Son. The fragrance of these souls rises from the earth and ascends to Your throne. Father of Mercy and of all goodness, I implore You by the love and predilection You have for these souls, to kindly bless the whole world, so that all souls may sing together the glory of Your Mercy for eternity. Amen.

Seventh day

“Today, bring to Me the souls who especially venerate and glorify My Mercy and immerse them in it. These souls have shared most in the sufferings of My Passion. They are the ones who have penetrated most deeply into My soul. They are the living reflection of My compassionate Heart. These souls will shine with a special brightness in the future life. None will go to hell. I will defend each of them in particular at the hour of death.”

Most Merciful Jesus, whose Heart is only love, receive into the abode of Your most compassionate Heart the souls who venerate and glorify more particularly the immensity of Your Mercy. Endowed with the very power of God, they go forward trusting in Your Mercy in the midst of all torments and vexations. These souls are united to Jesus and carry the weight of all humanity on their shoulders. They will not be judged severely, but Your Mercy will protect them in the moment of agony.

Eternal Father, deign to cast a merciful glance upon the souls who celebrate and venerate Your greatest attribute: Your infinite Mercy. Enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus, they are a living Gospel. Their hands are full of acts of mercy. Filled with joy they sing the hymn of the Mercy of the Most High. I beg you, show them your mercy according to the hope and trust they have placed in you. May the promise of Jesus, who said: “I will defend for their whole life, as My own glory, the souls who will venerate My infinite Mercy. I will defend them especially at the hour of death.

Eighth day

“Today, bring to Me the souls who are in Purgatory and immerse them in the abyss of My Mercy. Let the streams of My Blood cool their burns. All these souls are very dear to Me, but they do Me justice. It is in your power to bring them some relief. Draw from the treasury of My Church all the indulgences, and offer them in their name. Oh, if you knew their suffering, you would unceasingly offer in their name the alms of your prayers, and you would pay their debts to My Justice”.

Most Merciful Jesus, who said that You Yourself wanted Mercy, here I am bringing to the abode of Your most Compassionate Heart, the souls of Purgatory, who are very dear to You, but who must nevertheless give an account to Your Justice. May the streams of Blood and Water gushing forth from Your Heart extinguish the flames of the purifying fire, so that there too the power of Your Mercy may be glorified.

Eternal Father, deign to cast a glance of Mercy upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I implore You through the painful Passion of Jesus, Your Son, and through all the bitterness with which His most holy soul was inundated, to manifest Your Mercy to the souls who are subject to Your flawless Justice. May Your gaze take into account only the merits of the wounds of Jesus, Your dearest Son, for we believe that Your goodness and Your mercy are infinite.

Ninth day

“Today, bring to Me the indifferent and cold souls, and immerse them in the abyss of My Mercy. These are the souls that most painfully wound My Heart. They are the ones who, in the Garden of Olives, inspired the greatest aversion to Me. It is because of them that I said: ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this chalice pass away from Me’! For them, the ultimate plank of salvation is to have recourse to My Mercy”.

Most merciful Jesus, who are only pity, I bring to the abode of Your most compassionate Heart the indifferent and cold souls. May these souls, whose coldness fills You with repulsion, find the flame of life in the fire of Your pure love. Most Compassionate Jesus, use the Almighty power of Your Mercy: draw them into the very blaze of Your love and communicate to them the fire of divine love, for You can do all things.

Eternal Father, cast a glance of Mercy on the indifferent souls, who are nevertheless enclosed in the most compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beseech You by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three-hour agony on the cross, allow these souls also to celebrate the abyss of Your Mercy. Amen.
