Relief through conformity to the Will of God
A venerable bishop, Thomas of Cantimpré, tells us that his own grandmother never stopped mourning the death of her son. One day, in a dream, a group of young people appeared to her, all shining with ineffable beauty, and they came forward, animated by a holy joy. Far behind them, she saw her son coming with an unsteady step. “What is it, my son, she asked him, that you are walking alone and behind the others?” But he immediately showed her a heavy burden that he was carrying in the folds of his garment and said, “Mother, here are all the tears that you have uselessly shed for me and whose weight prevents me from going forward. Instead, address your tears to God, present Him with a resigned heart, have the Holy Sacrifice of the altars offered, and then I will be rid of all that still weighs upon me.”
