A story for every day...

Saint Hubert, the son of a duke of Aquitaine (who died in 727 as bishop of Maëstricht), had been a passionate hunter in his youth. He spent almost all his time hunting and forgot God completely. One day, on a great feast day, he went hunting in the Ardennes instead of going to church, and suddenly he saw before him a deer with a luminous image of the Crucified on its forehead. At the same time a voice cried out to him: “Hubert, how long will you continue to chase game and use your time so badly? When will you finally be convinced that you were created only to know and love God?” These words and the mysterious apparition made a deep impression on Hubert; he immediately resolved to change his life, went to St. Lambert, bishop of Maëstricht, to ask him for help and advice in order to enter the ways of a truly Christian life. Hubert later became a priest, and his virtues led to his election as successor to St. Lambert.

The three kingdoms of nature.

A child was asked one day to which kingdom man belonged: To the mineral, vegetable or animal kingdom? The pious child answered without hesitation: To the kingdom of God!
