St. Ignatius often said to a novice, who was extremely vivacious and hot-tempered, “My son, triumph over your naturalness, and you will have a more resplendent crown in heaven than many others who are meek by character.” One day when the master of novices complained of him as an intractable young man, the Saint replied, “I think that the one of whom you complain has made more progress in virtue in a few months, than this other one, whom you praise so much, has made in a year.”
