One never forgets the good principles received in childhood
A young man had led an unchristian life. More than once he had upset his mother, whom he loved very much; yet his evil passions, not to mention bad company, always led him astray. He wanted to pray too, but he had forgotten his prayers, even though he had a lot of knowledge; he took a book of piety, but he could not even find the Office of the Dead, not even the De profundis. Then he became indignant and said to himself in his heart: “Wretch that you are, you can only pray for your mother! Poor mother, she will always be unhappy to have had you for son! Besides, my prayers would be of no use to her. Well, no, it will not be so: I will instruct myself again in my religion; I will confess and take communion for my mother.” And not only was he faithful, but he later became an excellent Christian.
