Our Lady of the Rosary

Let Us Pray the Rosary

Short Meditations

Prayers before the Rosary

  • We start by making piously the Sign of the Cross, which is the Sign of the Christian:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, and of the Mother of God. Amen.

  • Offering of the Rosary

O Mary, You are for all men the Mother of Mercy, You are the sure refuge of sinners; offer to Your divine Son Jesus this Rosary that I am going to pray in Your company, for the conversion of poor sinful souls.  Pray especially for the most hard-hearted, for the persecutors of the Church and of the Vicar of Christ; for those who are blinded by the world, by riches and pleasures.

What joy will fill Your Heart, dear Mother, when You see these poor souls returning to God! The exultation that You felt when You found Your Son, after losing Him for three days, will be renewed when You receive in Your arms these other children, whose loss You are now mourning.

I commend to You in a very special way the sinners of my family; and remember, O good Mother, that my soul is of all, the most miserable and worthy of pity.

O my Sovereign, O my Mother, I give myself to You: keep me always!

  • The Symbol of the Apostles

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Church of Jesus Christ, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

  • One Our Father (Prayer taught by Jesus Christ to His Apostles)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

  • Three Hail Mary’s (Angelical Salutation)

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee; blessed art Thou among women, and blessed is Thy Son, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, pray for us, sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

  • One Glory Be to the Father

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, and to the Mother of God. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Sorrowful Mysteries – Let us Pray for the Sick and those who are dying.

First Mystery: The Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane

Fruit of the mystery: perfect contrition for our sins.

L'Agonie de Jésus au jardin de Gethsémani

Let us follow Jesus to the Garden of Olives. He accepts in advance the infinite sufferings of His Passion and death to atone for our sins and open the gates of Heaven to us. He suffers so much that He is bathed in a sweat of blood. What sorrows He feels because of us!

Let us ask Him for sincere contrition for our sins to obtain forgiveness. Let us ask Mary to obtain for us this pardon.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

At Fatima, Our Lady requested that we recite the following Prayer after each decade:

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in the most need of Thy Mercy.

Second Mystery: The Flagellation of Jesus

Fruit of the mystery: the love of penance and the spirit of sacrifice.

La flagellation de Jésus

Let us adore Jesus Christ tied to a column and cruelly scourged from the feet to the head. His whole body is a gaping wound.

Let us unite ourselves to His sufferings, and ask Him for the spirit of penance and mortification. May the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for us and obtain for us the courage to sacrifice ourselves for the love of God.

We recite one Our Father.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in the most need of Thy Mercy.

Third Mystery: Jesus is crowned with thorns

Fruit of the mystery: the destruction of our pride and the love of humiliation.

Jésus est couronné d'épines

Let us adore Jesus crowned with thorns; a reed is put in His hand and a scarlet cloak is thrown over His body, He is slapped, His adorable face is spat upon, He is ridiculed in the worst way. Oh, what humiliation for the Son of God! And yet… He receives all these insults with an inexpressible love for us, in order to save us.

After such an example, could we fear humiliations and opprobrium! Let us pray to the Virgin Mary, our good Mother, to make our hearts conform to the meek and humble Heart of Her divine Son.

Fourth Mystery: The Carrying of the Cross

Fruit of the mystery: Resignation in suffering and love of the cross.

Le portement de la Croix

Let us follow Jesus carrying His cross on Calvary; our sins make this cross so heavy that Jesus falls several times under this burden.

O my God, I accept my pains and sufferings as crosses chosen by Your mercy for my sanctification and to obtain for me eternal happiness in Heaven with You.

Prayers of the decade

We recite one Our Father.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Fifth Mystery: The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus on the Cross

Fruit of the mystery: Death to ourselves, to our evil inclinations, to our sinful habits, to live for God alone.

Jésus meurt sur la Croix

Let us adore Jesus dying for us on the cross and forgiving His executioners. He forgives the criminal who dies beside Him and regrets his crimes. He entrusts us to His most holy Mother, the Virgin Mary.

Let us ask for self-denial, forgiveness of insults, generous and loyal love for Jesus and Mary.

Prayers of the decade

We recite one Our Father.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Prayers after the Rosary

Hail, Holy Queen!

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy. our life, our sweetness and our hope! To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, Thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of Thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

  • Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
  • That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us Pray. O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain, and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, and of the Mother of God. Amen.

Share these prayers with those who are dear to you.

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, and of the Mother of God. Amen.

Preparatory Prayer

O Jesus! We are going to walk with You on the road to Calvary which was so painful for You. Make us understand the greatness of Your sufferings, touch our hearts with tender compassion at the sight of Your torments, in order to increase in us the regret of our faults and the love we wish to have for You.
Deign to apply to all of us the infinite merits of Your Passion, and in memory of Your sorrows, show mercy to the souls in Purgatory, especially to those who are most abandoned.
O Divine Mary, who first taught us to make the Way of the Cross, obtain for us the grace to follow Jesus with the sentiments Your Heart was filled with as You accompanied Him on the road to Calvary. Grant that we may weep with You, and that we may love Your divine Son as You do. We ask this in the name of His adorable Heart. Amen.
